Once Again Upon Us

5/11/2023

Well, a new Zelda game is once again upon us. Tears of the Kingdom (as is news to no one at this point) drops tomorrow. Already the reviews are rolling out, but I'm avoiding them like lice. (A good review is like a good stew: it takes a lovely simmering of a good many things over a long period of time.)

To mark the occasion, I just finished the article on Hyrule's Lodges, which is now up. Happy reading, and happy playing.

I'm so excited about this new game and the amazing world the devs have rendered for us! I'm really excited to see what you think of it. Also thanks for posting, it makes my day!

Dear Maxwell,

Thanks for writing in! I'm slowly, oh-so-slowly, making my way through the story (well, what I found of it, at least). I imagine it'll be a while before I have anything substantive to say! For now, I just want to soak it all up and let it simmer in my mind. Hope you're enjoying the experience thus far!

Best,

Talbot

I’ve been playing Tears of the Kingdom for almost 15 hours now and it feels like I haven’t even touched the surface, let alone scratched it. I’m already in love with the Zonai and their style, their curiously named Temple of Time in particular really blew me away. This is definitely the kind of game you need to take your time with, but I’m so interested to see what you have to say on it.

Yeah, I've put perhaps 30 hours in by this point, and still feel like I've only explored 5% of the Depths to my liking. The game is beyond immense. The Temple of Time is definitely curious to look at; this game will require a full decade on my part, probably!

Hello, I love your content! I think it would be interesting if you covered the various ruins from Breath of the Wild (Zonai ruins, Thyphlo ruins, Lomei Labyrinths). Maybe you could also compare it to the ones in Tears of the Kingdom, but it doesn't have to be the same article if you don't want. Thanks for anything you post!

Dear Zelda (!),

I do plan on covering such things within the next couple years (as I imagine it will take me that long . . .). I have a large list of Zonai things to cover at this point, and it's only growing! Stay tuned.

Best,

Talbot

The universe of The Legend of Zelda is replete with multifarious architectural oddities, beautiful and resonating structures, and ineffably-mysterious temples hidden in the remote corners of the world. It is my hope to explore said places, shedding light upon some of their salient features, and fulfilling the goals laid out by the introduction, the main goal of which is to help people understand and appreciate the unspoken, yet deeply-felt, allure of these locations and structures.
